Children’s safety and education on sexual assault prevention are crucial, not just for their well-being but for creating a safer society overall.

As a survivor myself, I know first-hand the devastating impact that sexual assault can have, which is why I am deeply committed to ensuring my children—and all children—are educated and protected. Research shows that 95% of sexual assaults are preventable through education, making it essential to have open, age-appropriate conversations about boundaries, consent, and body autonomy from an early age. Teaching children to recognize unsafe situations, understand that no one has the right to touch them without consent, and feel empowered to speak up can be life changing. It’s not about instilling fear but about giving them the tools to protect themselves and others. Predators often rely on silence, ignorance, and manipulation, but by fostering an environment of trust and open communication, we can break that cycle. As parents, we must be proactive, educate ourselves, and ensure our children know they can come to us with anything—without fear of shame or punishment. Knowledge is power, and in this case, it can be the difference between vulnerability and safety.

I was around seven years old when the abuse started. And to top it off, it was by someone I and the whole family trusted! The trauma I endured will stay with me for life, but it has also fueled my determination to protect my own children and educate others. I will go to my grave fighting to keep kids safe. If sharing my story and spreading awareness can prevent even one child from experiencing what I went through, then it’s worth it. Every child deserves to grow up feeling safe, loved, and protected.
